Hin Ta Hin Yai

The Legend of Hin Ta Hin Yai

Hin Ta and Hin Yai are no ordinary rocks. According to local folklore, these granite formations tell the tragic love story of Ta Kreng (Grandpa Kreng) and Yai Riem (Grandma Riem), a devoted elderly couple from Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Legend has it that Ta Kreng and Yai Riem set sail to ask for the hand of a prominent villager’s daughter in marriage for their son. However, their voyage took a treacherous turn when a fierce storm capsized their boat near Lamai Beach. Unable to survive the wreck, their bodies washed ashore—and, as the story goes, they were transformed into the rocks we now know as Hin Ta (Grandpa Rock) and Hin Yai (Grandma Rock).

This tale of devotion and fate adds a layer of spiritual and cultural significance to the site, making it much more than just a quirky attraction.
